So I just finished marathoning the second season of Suits. I'd watched the first season a long time ago and liked it, but I thought there was nowhere they could go with the plot, and it was just going to be week after week of them winning cases and trying like heck to hide Mike's secret. I thought I'd watch just one little wee episode of season two to see what they'd do with these fellas. Fast forward to today. Hoo boy! The drama! The betrayals! The crazy gorgeous people everywhere! And Gale from Breaking Bad, very much alive and being a dick - like eveyone else in this show. Nobody is nice, nobody is honest, everybody is good looking. EXCELLENT.

Two points:

1. You could tell me that the writers of the last episode didn't watch the Buffy and Spike hate-sex scene from Smashed...but I wouldn't believe you.

2. I just want someone to love Louis. Anyone. Anyone besides me, I mean.

I love Louis!

My sister gave me seasons 1-3 for Christmas and I mainlined them in Feb. It does really develop through season 3, too.

Some points:

1. I was cranky they cast two white guys for the leads. It took me about 4 eps to even tell them apart.

2. While I really love the show there is something lacking and I can't identify what it is. When I check off my Favourite Things they're all there (ethical grey zones, layered characters, redemption arcs that succeed, redemption arcs that fail, balance of work and private lives, interesting issues, strong women, recurring secondary characters, season-spanning plot lines, character journeys that really mean something), but there's a weird hole.

3. Rachel's whole non-love-interest arc is about being a beautiful woman trying to be taken seriously as a professional, but the camera constantly pans up and down her body, or we come into a room as she's bent over a desk, and she's being sexualised in a way that completely undermines this aspect of her story.

4. Donna's over-acting. But wow, can she cry pretty.

It gets kinda dark, and two Game of Thrones actors have major roles, so the Suits cast blame the GoT actors for "bringing the dark".
